Synopsis

Introduction: Pre-eclampsia, a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, significantly contributes to maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in rural areas with limited healthcare access. Identifying determinants of pre-eclampsia and understanding its impact on pregnancy outcomes can help in developing preventive strategies and improving maternal-child health.

Aims and Objectives

Aim

  • To assess the determinants of pre-eclampsia and its correlation with outcome among pregnant women attending ANC clinic in district Jalaun.

Objective

  • To assess the sociodemographic profile of study population.
  • To identify the factors determining the pre-eclampsia in study population
  • To find out correlation between determinants of pre-eclampsia and outcome of pregnancy in study population.
  • To make recommendation on the basis of findings of current study.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted involving pregnant women attending ANC clinics in rural Jalaun. Data were collected on socio-demographic factors, medical history, clinical parameters, and laboratory findings. Pre-eclampsia was diagnosed based on blood pressure measurements and proteinuria. Maternal outcomes, such as mode of delivery and complications, and neonatal outcomes, including birth weight and NICU admissions, were analyzed. Statistical tools were used to identify significant determinants and correlations.

Results: The study identified significant determinants of pre-eclampsia, including advanced maternal age, obesity, and a history of hypertension. Pre-eclampsia was associated with adverse outcomes, including increased rates of cesarean delivery, maternal complications, and low birth weight neonates. Timely diagnosis and management were found to improve outcomes.

Conclusion: Pre-eclampsia remains a critical challenge in rural areas. Awareness programs, early detection, and comprehensive antenatal care can mitigate its impact and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
