Synopsis

Background: Early-onset severe pre-eclampsia (EOSPE) is a critical condition associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It typically occurs before 34 weeks of gestation and requires timely diagnosis and management to prevent adverse outcomes. Understanding the clinical outcomes and challenges of EOSPE is essential for improving care.

Aim and Objective:

Study of maternal and fetal outcome in early onset pre eclampsia and  to note the variable factors associated with maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality

Methods: A retrospective clinical study was conducted on patients diagnosed with early-onset severe pre-eclampsia over a 3-year period. Data were collected regarding maternal characteristics, obstetric history, complications, mode of delivery, and neonatal outcomes. Statistical analysis was performed to determine correlations between various clinical factors and patient outcomes.

Results: The study included 150 women with EOSPE, with a mean gestational age at diagnosis of 29 weeks. Maternal complications included eclampsia (8%), renal failure (5%), and HELLP syndrome (3%). Preterm delivery occurred in 85% of cases, with 50% of neonates being born at <32 weeks. Neonatal complications such as respiratory distress syndrome and low birth weight were observed in a majority of cases.

Conclusion: Early-onset severe pre-eclampsia remains a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity. Early diagnosis and management are crucial in improving outcomes. The study emphasizes the need for close monitoring and individualized care to optimize maternal and neonatal health.
