Synopsis

Introduction: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a potentially life-threatening condition with varying degrees of severity. Early risk stratification is crucial for optimizing management and reducing complications. The Bedside Index for Severity in Acute Pancreatitis (BISAP) score is a simple, bedside clinical tool designed to predict the severity and mortality risk in AP patients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BISAP score in predicting adverse outcomes in AP.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To assess the accuracy of the BISAP score in predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis.
  2. To evaluate its ability to predict in-hospital mortality in AP patients.

Methods: This prospective observational study will be conducted at a tertiary care hospital, enrolling patients diagnosed with AP. The BISAP score will be calculated within 24 hours of admission, and patients will be classified based on severity. Clinical outcomes, including complications, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and mortality, will be recorded. The predictive performance of the BISAP score will be analyzed using statistical methods, including sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.

Results: The study will determine the correlation between BISAP scores and patient outcomes, evaluating its reliability in risk stratification.

Conclusion; The findings will help establish the BISAP score as a valuable early prognostic tool for guiding clinical decisions in acute pancreatitis management.
