Synopsis

Introduction: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting reproductive-aged women, characterized by hormonal imbalances, metabolic dysfunction, and chronic inflammation. Galectin-1, a β-galactoside-binding protein, has been implicated in immune modulation, inflammation, and metabolic pathways. Understanding its role in PCOS may provide insights into the disease's pathophysiology and potential therapeutic targets.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To study the prevalence & incidence of PCOS in reproductive age group
  2. To study the AMH level in patient with PCOS in comparison to normal patient
  3. To study the Biochemical changes ; lipid profile , OGTT 2hr, Thyroid profile in patient with PCOS as compared to normal patient
  4. To Assess possible role of GALECTIN 1 in pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome with different subsets.

Methods: A case-control study will be conducted on women diagnosed with PCOS based on the Rotterdam criteria and age-matched healthy controls. Serum Galectin-1 levels will be measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Hormonal profiles, lipid profiles, insulin resistance markers, and inflammatory markers will be assessed. Statistical analysis will be performed to determine associations between Galectin-1 levels and PCOS severity.

Results: It is anticipated that Galectin-1 levels will show a significant difference between PCOS patients and controls, with possible correlations to insulin resistance, inflammatory markers, and metabolic dysfunction. This may indicate its potential as a biomarker for disease severity.

Conclusion: Galectin-1 may play a crucial role in PCOS pathophysiology. If found to be a reliable marker, it could aid in early diagnosis and targeted therapeutic interventions for PCOS management.
