Introduction: Palmoplantar dermatoses encompass a wide range of dermatological conditions affecting the palms and soles, often presenting with varied clinical manifestations. Dermoscopy, a non-invasive imaging technique, has become an essential tool for evaluating these conditions. This study explores the correlation between clinical and dermoscopic findings in palmoplantar dermatoses to better understand their diagnostic significance.
Aim and Objectives:
Aim: To study the clinical and dermoscopic findings observed in palmoplantar dermatoses.
Objectives: To assess the correlation between clinical and dermoscopic findings of corresponding palmo plantar dermatoses.
Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 150 patients presenting with palmoplantar dermatoses. Clinical assessments included detailed history, physical examination, and documentation of symptoms. Dermoscopic examination was performed using a dermatoscope, and images were analyzed for key features. The correlation between clinical diagnosis and dermoscopic findings was analyzed using statistical methods.
Results: A strong correlation was observed between clinical diagnosis and dermoscopic findings, with significant associations between the clinical features of psoriasis, eczema, and fungal infections and specific dermoscopic patterns (p < 0.05). In particular, the presence of scales, vascular structures, and hypo- or hyperpigmented areas was consistent across both clinical and dermoscopic assessments. Dermoscopy helped in identifying early or subclinical signs, aiding in the differentiation of conditions with similar presentations.
Conclusion: Dermoscopy offers valuable insights into the diagnosis and differentiation of palmoplantar dermatoses. The strong correlation between clinical and dermoscopic findings enhances diagnostic accuracy and aids in the management of these conditions.
