Synopsis

Introduction: Benign breast diseases (BBD) encompass a spectrum of non-malignant breast conditions. These conditions significantly affect women’s quality of life and may also increase the risk of breast cancer. This study investigates the role of epidemiological factors in BBD and their correlation with histopathological findings to optimize management strategies.

Aims and Objectives:

Aim

  • Aim of this study is to research and establish the role of various epidemiological factors in benign breast disease patients and correlate it with the histopathological findings.

Objectives

  • To evaluate the role of following epidemiological factors
  • Age of menarche and menopause
  • Cultural habits
  • Dietary habits
  • Role of ocp/hrt
  • Obstetric history
  • Environmental factor
  • Histopathological correlation in benign breast disease

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted at G.R. Medical College, Gwalior, involving 50 patients clinically diagnosed with BBD. Inclusion criteria covered both genders aged 18-60 years. Data collection included detailed clinical history, radiological investigations, FNAC, and histopathological examination. Follow-ups at 15 days, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-treatment assessed complications and patient satisfaction.

Results: Key epidemiological factors included younger age, hormonal therapy use, and dietary habits. Histopathological findings ranged from fibroadenoma and fibrocystic changes to inflammatory lesions. Correlation analysis highlighted significant associations between patient demographics and specific histopathological types. The majority of cases were managed surgically, with a high satisfaction rate reported post-treatment.

Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of epidemiological factors in understanding BBD and tailoring management strategies. Early diagnosis and appropriate intervention can significantly enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
