Synopsis

Introduction: Gall bladder carcinoma (GBC) is a highly aggressive malignancy often diagnosed at an advanced stage. The molecular mechanisms underlying GBC progression remain poorly understood. p53 and Her2neu are key oncogenes that have been implicated in the development of various cancers. Their expression in GBC and its precursor lesions could provide valuable insights into the molecular changes associated with gall bladder carcinogenesis.

Aims and Objective

Aim: To study the expression of p53 and Her2neu in Gall bladder carcinoma and its precursor lesions.

Primary Objective: To evaluate histopathologicalfeatures of Gall bladder carcinoma.

Secondary Objective: To study the immuno-histochemical expression of p53 and Her-2-neu in gall bladder carcinoma and its precursor lesions.

Methods: This retrospective study included tissue samples from patients diagnosed with gall bladder carcinoma and precursor lesions. The samples underwent histopathological examination, followed by immunohistochemical staining for p53 and Her2neu expression. The intensity and pattern of staining were analyzed and correlated with clinical and histopathological data.

Results: The results showed a significant overexpression of p53 and Her2neu in gall bladder carcinoma compared to precursor lesions. A higher frequency of p53 expression was observed in poorly differentiated tumors, while Her2neu expression was more prevalent in advanced stages of carcinoma. The expression of both markers correlated with aggressive tumor behavior and poor prognosis.

Conclusion: The study demonstrates that p53 and Her2neu play a significant role in the progression of gall bladder carcinoma. Their immunohistochemical expression may serve as potential biomarkers for early detection and prognostic evaluation in GBC.
